Francis Lien

Francis Lien is a Taiwanese pianist and composer pursuing a Master of Music as a Newman Fellow at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. Studying under Dr. Stephanie Cheng, he holds a full-tuition scholarship and stipend. Lien strives to balance rigorous structural analysis with virtuosic command, reflecting his deep exploration of the "philosophy of the score."

Known for mastering high-tension repertoire, his recent milestones include performing Liszt’s complete Transcendental Études and the Sonata in B Minor in a single cycle. He also recently presented lecture-recitals at universities in Taiwan, promoting Liszt’s demanding operatic and symphonic transcriptions, including Don Juan and Wagner’s Liebestod. His artistic approach is validated by recent triumphs, notably winning National 2nd Place at the 2026 MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition.

Upcoming engagements include performing Liszt's Totentanz with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra after winning the Solo Honors Competition. Continuing his ascent on the international circuit, Lien will attend the 2026 Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival (RPPF) on a full scholarship. By bridging systematic form with sincere emotional resonance, he endeavors to create sustainable, profound musical dialogues.
